Your Inverter Is the Part Most Likely to Fail First
The inverter turns the power from your panels into power your home can use. When it fails, your system stops producing and you pay SDG&E full price for every kilowatt-hour.
Always On Electric is a licensed San Diego electrical contractor (CSLB 1087774, C-10). We repair existing systems, including ones installed by companies that have closed. We carry diagnostic equipment for the major brands and stock common replacement parts, so most repairs are finished in a single visit.
A typical string inverter lasts about 10 to 15 years, and microinverters and optimizers are built to last 20 to 25. If yours is in that range, a failure is normal, and replacing the inverter usually costs far less than replacing the system.

WHY IT MATTERS
Why Fast Inverter Repair Matters
A dead inverter means a dead solar system. Here is what waiting costs you.
💵
Stop Losing Money Daily
When the inverter is down, your panels make nothing and you buy every kilowatt-hour from SDG&E. The longer it sits, the more it costs.
📋
Check Your Warranty First
Manufacturers often cover the part but not the labor. We help you check your coverage and file the claim before you pay for a new unit.
🔋
Catch Small Faults Early
A repeating error code or a weak unit can turn into a full failure. A quick diagnostic costs less than a dead system.
🔋
Protect Your Battery Investment
A Powerwall or IQ Battery can stop charging or discharging when the inverter or gateway has a fault. We check both.
⚙️
Know If It's Repair or Replace
A broken solar system is a red flag for home buyers. A properly functioning, documented system adds $20,000–$40,000 to your San Diego property value. We offer system health checks for both buyers and sellers.
🌩️
Storm and Surge Damage
Power surges and grid events can damage inverters. We document the damage for insurance claims and get your system producing again.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Solar Inverter Repair FAQs — San Diego
Q
HOW MUCH DOES SOLAR INVERTER REPAIR COST IN SAN DIEGO?
Most repairs run $250 to $300 for simple fixes, $250 to $500 for a microinverter, and $1,200 to $2,500 for a string inverter. The first-hour diagnostic is $250. We give you a flat-rate quote before any work starts.
Q
HOW DO I KNOW IF THE INVERTER OR THE PANELS ARE THE PROBLEM?
Start with your monitoring app. Zero production or an offline status usually points to the inverter or its internet connection. If only some panels are low, the cause is more often a failed optimizer or microinverter, shading, or a wiring issue. A diagnostic visit tells us which.
Q
SHOULD I REPAIR OR REPLACE AN OLDER INVERTER?
If the inverter is under 10 years old, repair is usually worth it. A string inverter at 10 to 15 years is near the end of its normal life, so we quote both repair and replacement and let you compare.
Q
DOES INVERTER REPAIR NEED A PERMIT
IN SAN DIEGO?
It depends on the job and your city. The City of San Diego exempts like-for-like maintenance repairs under $1,000 on single-family homes, but treats solar installations as permit work, so a larger replacement such as a string inverter may need one. We check your address and pull the permit when one is required.
Q
WILL MY WARRANTY COVER THE REPAIR?
Often it covers the replacement part but not the labor, and some warranties are pro-rated. Send us your inverter model and install date and we will tell you what to ask the manufacturer for. We can also help with the claim.
Q
CAN YOU FIX A SYSTEM SOMEONE ELSE INSTALLED?
Yes. Most of our solar work is repairing existing systems, including systems from installers who have gone out of business. You don't need the original installer.
What's Your Inverter Telling You?
Common Warning Signs
Here is what the most common inverter problems usually mean, and how urgent each one is.

What it usually means
Red or flashing light
The inverter found a fault and shut itself down. If it doesn't clear within 24 hours, book a diagnostic.

Zero production on a sunny day
Check for a tripped disconnect first. If that's fine, the inverter or its communication has likely failed.
